As a young child, I was deeply moved by how Gulu, in Northern Uganda, continued to progress despite years of political wars and conflicts. Major disease outbreaks and other tragedies left lasting scars on my people and communities. As a teenager, I carried a strong hope to contribute to my society by helping others face these challenges with resilience. With the resources we had, we began taking small steps to serve. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I joined with other youths to take action—organizing and carrying out as many community outreach activities as possible. What started as a shared passion has grown into something much larger. Today, we are officially registered as Volunteer Action Supporting Communities Organization Development Uganda (VASCOD-Uganda). My husband, Craig Culbertson, who serves as our Executive Director, has been one of our greatest supporters and has funded much of the organization’s growth. Our dedicated team of volunteers serves selflessly toward our goals and vision. VASCOD-Uganda invites passionate individuals from around the world to join hands and serve the communities of Gulu, empowering them to build a brighter and more sustainable future.
